Sunday Scoop, October 4: Weather Whiplash, Candy Chaos & All Things Fall
Happy Sunday Bushy Park Families!
Well, October has officially entered the chat and brought every season with it. One minute we’re sweating through our fall clothes, the next we’re reaching for a jacket, and somewhere in between we’ve started eating the candy corn.
Reminder that Walker's Tap and Table has dinner (or lunch, or both, who are we to judge) covered tomorrow, Monday, October 5. Mention BPES when you dine in or order carryout, and a portion of your purchase will support our school. And what's dinner without dessert?
You have until Sunday, October 11 (That's One Week!) to stock the freezer with your favorite pints of Taharka Bros while supporting BPES at the same time. That's plenty of time to debate whether Vanilla actually is the finest of the flavors. All orders will be delivered directly to school for easy pickup Monday, October 13–Wednesday, October 15. No extra charge for getting BNL circa 1998 stuck in your head. Order here!
Also coming up this week, because who doesn't love a little chaos, join us in person or virtually for our monthly hybrid PTA meeting on Wednesday, October 7. We’ll also welcome special guest Lindsay Unger, chair of PTAHC Technology Committee for “Tech & Kids: Navigating the Evolving Digital Landscape.” Come for a timely conversation about raising kids in an increasingly digital world, stay to find out what else your PTA has gotten itself into this month.
Fall Fest is rapidly approaching on Thursday, October 15, but there’s still time to host a trunk! We will have candy to share courtesy of our candy monsters, and you can let the kids know the school-wide reward is coming: music at lunch on Friday, October 9!
Calling all artists, writers, musicians, filmmakers, photographers, and dancers! Reflections is back with this year’s theme: “What My Culture Means to Me.” Students in PK–5th grade can submit original work in Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, or Visual Arts. The top three entries in each category for PK–2nd and 3rd–5th will advance to the county competition, with opportunities to continue to state and national levels. PTA prizes will also be awarded to BPES participants and finalists! Entries are due electronically by Friday, November 20. Learn more + submit an entry. Contact Erin Kerber with any questions.
Speaking of artists, Makerspace is back by popular demand! And we’re looking for parent volunteers to help make the crafting chaos happen. We may not always be able to come to lunch, but we can be part of the glue-stick-fueled fun! Whether you’re a crafting pro or simply willing to supervise a room full of creative kids, we’d love to have you join us. Please make sure you’ve completed your volunteer training before your first session. Come craft, create, and maybe leave with a little glitter on you that you’ll be finding until June.
Meanwhile, things at Bushy Park are moving at approximately 90 miles per hour. So grab a coffee, check the calendar, and let’s get into this week's TL/DR!
