Greetings Bushy Park Families, from a galaxy far far away!

Ok, well I'm actually just home writing this, dreaming of summer vacations, and emotionally preparing myself for the Jedi training and Wookie Tantrums of tomorrow.

We have a galactic week coming up but first, a cosmic shoutout to Hospitality Committee Chairs  Natalie K and Nicole O not only for the work they've done getting ready for teacher appreciation week (THIS WEEK, can you believe it?) but for the absolutely adorable gifts they put together on April 28 for Bus Driver Appreciation Day.  The smiles shone brighter than a lightsaber in the dark.  Another huge shoutout to Erin W and Cindy H. for a successful spring book fair.  If you entered the poster raffle, winners will be drawn and prizes will be delivered to your child's homeroom teacher this week.  Missed the fair?  There's still time to shop online and we still get credit!  Remember that your book fair purchases allow us to get fun things for our kids like the science fair prizes, new books to all incoming Kindergarteners, and much more.

As we hard launch into the first full week in a May which is as chaotic as Luke's Trench Run, I want to take a moment and recognize the spirit of this season.  This time of year is often busy enough that I wish I asked Santa for a pair of roller skates.  It's easy to remember to practice gratitude in December, sometimes less so when we are running from spirit week to graduation to event after event.  To the parent's who are Busy (capital B intended), we see you and we are you.  You're doing great.  We are grateful for any amount of effort you can give us and all the ways you help our school shine big or small.  To the Teachers, Staff, and Administration of Bushy Park Elementary, you are the heart of our school, you are the ones who teach our kids more than just how to walk in line or count by 100s, you do more than keep our halls clean and our building running day in and day out.  You are the reminder that hope is not lost, it is found in our school, our classrooms and playgrounds (and yes, our gardens) every day at BPES.

Here's what's coming up next:

  • May 4-8 is Teacher Appreciation Week.  The Jedi's of the Hospitality Committee have been working SO HARD for weeks to plan such a thoughtful series of events for our teachers and staff.   Share affirmations and words of gratitude for our staff!

  • May 6- PTA elections at our penultimate meeting of the year 6:30 in the media center.  Hybrid as usual, but man would we love to see you there!  I promise we're fun.  Special Guest is Delaney Putt, who is a Towson University Intern that has been working with Mrs. Cohn and our students all year long.  Kindergarten Information Session will also be held on this date in the cafeteria at 6 PM, incoming families are welcome to stay for the PTA meeting.

  • May 9- Spring yard sale, and Bushy Blooms Pickup.  Come out and shop, visit, or make your garden beautiful.

  • May 11- join our kids who have been working so hard since December on the K-Pop showcase!  Doors open at 6:15, performance in the cafeteria.

  • June 3Ice Cream Social and final PTA meeting of the year.

  • June 9- 5th grade party at Red Barn Ranch.  Registration is now open, details went home this week but can also be found on our website.  Don't forget to order your graduation yard sign to support the 5th grade committee's efforts!

  • June 11- End of Year Carnival from 6-8 at BPES.  Planning is well underway but we are always looking for more hands to make the work light.  We will have food trucks and fun new games and activities, as well as some old favorites.  There will be designated inflatables for our youngest bear cubs, no matter how big they think they are, and staff onsite to help keep the traffic flowing safely.

Alright friends, rest up tonight because we are standing on the edge of something "that's no moon" big.  The Force is stirring, the lightsabers are charging (If my kids didn't co-op that plug for their ipads), and I've emotionally doubled down on this bit.  Be well Bushy Park Families, and May the Force Be With You, tomorrow and always!
