Happy Sunday Bushy Park Families!

Well, another short week in the books but somehow it still felt full! Funny how that works. Four days, one hundred to-dos, and approximately 437 snack requests later… here we are.  For those of you who have, like myself, forgotten, that warm yellow thing in the sky this weekend was the sun hopefully melting the last remnants of snow.  We have almost made it to "just go outside and play" season, conversely known as damage control for the Bushy Park Grounds Beautification Committee, which is always seeking additional hands to get dirty.

This week’s highlight? STEM! Our hallways were buzzing with curiosity, creativity, and the unmistakable sound of kids explaining complex scientific principles with absolute confidence and about 75% accuracy. From hands-on experiments to engineering challenges, it was a powerful reminder that learning is fun when it’s interactive (and occasionally a little messy).

Huge thank you to Barbara S and Melanie B for doing such a spectacular job chairing the Science Fair!  This event took place throughout the school day and the projects did not disappoint.  The enthusiasm the kids have for science and their individual projects was exciting to see.  Thank  you to all the parents and extended family members who volunteered (or were voluntold) as judges, we could not have done any of this without you.  The winners were announced Friday night, but ICYMI they are:

  • PreK- Akshara T (1)

  • K- Jayden K (1) and Ethan M (2)

  • 1st- Adelina M (1), Raegan M/Rhylee C (2), Baileigh G (3)

Another shoutout to Candice G and Barbara S for chairing the sister event, STEM NIGHT!  This event is a community favorite that brings together not only current BPES families to explore STEAM activities, clubs, and professions, but it also features our community as a whole.  Not only were current families here to participate in the fun, but BPES alums from middle to high school were on hand showing that we may move on from Bushy Park but we never leave it behind.  At Friday's event we saw HCPD testing the arm of baseball throwing kids with radar guns, we saw HCFD showing us how they save lives using science, we were treated to hands on robotics fun from local Glenelg HS students, our fearless Media Center Team was on hand allowing our students to unleash their creativity, and so much more. This event is a shining example of what happens when a community comes together.  What stood out most wasn’t just the science (although the Science Guys really did bring it with their amazing presentation), it was the spirit. Families showing up. Teachers, and principals, staying late. Students encouraging each other, that’s the good stuff.

Now, what's on the horizon??  Well a full week, for one.  Remember that Tuesday March 3 is now a full day instead of early dismissal.  We will still have our spirit night at Stratosphere Social, please drop your receipts in labeled boxes for BPES.

  • PTA Meeting: March 4  Door prize this month is a complimentary yearbook, and our in person guest speaker will be Sarah Catucci from Brighter Days Adolescent and Family Therapy

  • March 6: Bookswap day hosted by BPES.

  • Beary Creative: March 12. Join us for a llamazing evening (no seriously) art event for our older kids, grades 3-5.  Space is limited to 50 students and their grownups so signup today!

  • Bushy Blooms returns again this year, this time with updated all-in-one ordering.  We are also hosting a yard sale during pickup, so please register for a spot if you want to clean out your closets and tot-swap with your neighbors.

For all this and more, please check out our March Newsletter.  Send warming thoughts out to my garden and hope we all remember how to go to school for a full 5-day week.
