Sunday Scoop, June 21 edition- Signing off for summer

School's Out for Summer!  

Happy Sunday Bushy Park Families!

We did it!  We crossed the finish line on the 2025-2026 school year, complete with 3 winter breaks, a MayCember that was 437 days long, and at least 12 outgrown pairs of shoes.  Remember to empty out all lunchboxes, check backpacks for hidden snacks or the string cheese someone was saving for aftercare, and get ready to fix lunch four times before noon. Seriously, how do these kids eat so much?!  I would also be remiss if I didn't take a moment to wish a Happy Father's Day to all the Bushy Park Elementary School dads, grandpas, uncles, and friends of our community.  May your day be bright and your jokes always land with at least a chortle.

As we close out this final Sunday Scoop of the year I want to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for welcoming me into my first year as PTA President.   From Back-to-School Picnic to Spirit Nights, Talent Show to Teacher Appreciation, Book Fair to the End-of-Year Party, this community showed up again and again with generosity, enthusiasm, and heart. It has been an absolute privilege to serve alongside such an incredible group of families, staff, and volunteers.  

Of course, we're already busy planning even more fun for next year, and we'd love your help! The PTA is powered entirely by volunteers (and massive amounts of coffee), and whether you have one hour to give or want to take on a larger role, there's a place for you. Interested? Let us know! I promise we are a fun group.  We'd also love your feedback! Take a few minutes to complete our survey and let us know how we're doing. Your thoughts help us make next year even better.

While we are busy here at PTA headquarters I hope you all get to fill your cups with late summer nights by the pool, sticky faces, and the smell of sunscreen. Don't forget to take the Bushy Bear along on your adventures! This year we're launching our very own Flat Buddy Program. Similar to one of your favorite book series, families can print Flat Buddy and take photos of their adventures near or far. 

While you're soaking up those vacation vibes, don't forget our school supply store is now open! Skip the back-to-school shopping scramble, support the PTA, and have supplies delivered right to your door this summer.  Doesn't get much easier than that!  Still want to pick out your custom Lisa Frank pencil case and a trapper-keeper because what decade is it exactly anyway?!  Don't worry, you can customize your order and have the best of both worlds.

To our newest Bushy Park families, we can't wait to meet you! Kindergarten Open House will be held on July 30, and we're excited to welcome the Class of 2039 to our school community.  Make sure to RSVP to either the morning or afternoon session.  Remember that sharing PTA information is an acceptable form of peer pressure, so make sure to remind any friends who aren't already getting the Sunday Scoop.

Whether you volunteered at an event, joined the PTA, attended a meeting, donated, cheered on your child at an activity, or simply took the time to read the scoop, you helped make this year something special.  Together we truly shined, next year will definitely be Out of this World.
