Sunday Scoop, April 19 edition- From False Summer to Frost

Happy Sunday Bushy Park Families!

Just when spring has sprung and the colors are starting to show off, we are hit with a cold and rainy Sunday complete with Frost Warning.  It's a good day for snuggling up and watching movies, drinking hot coffee... oh wait, we're Elementary School Parents.  Well it's a good day for daydreaming about relaxation, am I right?  Before I try to check Mother Nature's thermostat, there's a ton of stuff right around the corner so be sure to read on for what's coming up next!

A few notes from our friends at BPES:  Field Day is rapidly approaching (MAY 19).  Ms. Z and Mr. Csajko are seeking some more volunteers, especially for the afternoon session.  Please find the schedule and FAQs here as well. 

From Mrs. Bengermino, Bushy Park Elementary is hosting Career Day for 3rd–4th graders on June 12, 2026, and is seeking volunteers to share their careers and experiences with students. No student in those grades required.  Sign up by May 6 to participate.

Yearbook Sales wrap up TODAY!  For real this time, order today. It's the last day.  Can't remember if you already ordered? You can double check yourself.  I feel so seen.

After school drum lessons with Mr. Tez and Mr. VanMeter- We have pushed the start date back 1 week until 4/27 to try to drum up some more interest.  Don't worry, we will still have 6 sessions!  We are also opening it up to grades 2-5, learn more and sign up here.

Belonging Night is FRIDAY April 24!  Join us for a celebration of the Bushy Park community, host a table and share what makes your family or group unique.  Create a table display to represent your culture or heritage, your favorite tradition, a community group or organization, something that represents your story.  Think Trunk or Treat but for what makes your family awesome.  Music, Food, Activities for the whole family, and possibly even a sneak peak of the book fair!

Book fair is coming April 27-May 1!  We cannot hold the book fair without adult volunteers at the register, sign up today and make co-chairs Erin and Cindy VERY happy.

End of Year Carnival will be Thursday June 11, save the date! (Rain date is Friday June 12).  Planning is well underway but we are always looking for more hands to make the work light.  We will have food trucks and some fun new games, a rock climbing wall, and inflatables all.  There will be designated inflatables for our youngest bear cubs, no matter how big they think they are, and staff onsite to help keep the traffic flowing safely.  Have an idea for something you would like to see?  Reach out today!

Spring Yard Sale!   It’s time to start clearing out, sorting through, and asking ourselves the tough questions like “Why do I even have this?” Sign up for your slot today, the sale will be on May 9 during Bushy Blooms Pickup.  Vendors are also welcome, check our page for vendor guidelines.

Teacher Appreciation Week is almost here (May 4-8) and the PTA is preparing a flower-themed week that is sure to be  un-bee-lievable!  We want to share our love for all the amazing staff who helped our kids bloom this year.  I know the hospitality committee rose  to the occasion, and we are rooting for a fantastic week, but we can't do it without you!  Check out the schedule of events, wish lists, and volunteer dreams here.
