Kandinsky Salt Circles

Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944) was a Russian painter, art theorist, and pioneer of abstract art. “Color is a power which directly influences the soul.” Squares With Concentric Circles 1913.
MATERIALS - thick paper, liquid glue, salt, watercolor paint (liquid works best) or food coloring, and paint brush.
STEP 1 - “Draw” concentric circles with liquid glue on your paper.
STEP 2 - Cover glue with salt then carefully shake of excess salt. Start next step before glue dries.
STEP 3 - Dip brush into paint and gently dab on salt circles. Watch the colors spread and mix. Remember to rinse your brush when changing colors.
STEP 4 - If desired, paint some areas of the background. Allow to dry fully then shake off excess salt to reveal brighter colors.
DISCUSS - Geometric shapes and concentric circles. Color mixing. Beautiful imperfections.
